SUMMARY:Beyond the Mission: The Economic Power of Los Angeles County's Nonprofits
DESCRIPTION:About This Webinar\nWhat if we looked at Los Angeles County’s nonprofit sector not just as a collection of mission-driven organizations\, but as an economic force? \nA new report from the Center for Nonprofit Management (CNM) and the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) Institute for Applied Economics offers a different view. DESCRIPTION:Overview\nFor many nonprofit leaders\, financial anxiety didn’t start with budgets and spreadsheets — it started at home. Long before anyone learned to read a balance sheet\, they absorbed a money story: beliefs about debt\, risk\, saving\, and what it means to be “good with money\,” shaped by race\, class\, culture\, and generational experience. Nobody sits you down and teaches you this story. You just learn to carry it\, usually without realizing that’s what you’re doing. \nThis virtual seminar\, hosted by CNM in partnership with BDO\, starts by putting that story into words instead of pretending it doesn’t belong in a professional development conversation. Most nonprofit leaders carry real fear around finances\, and it isn’t a personal failing that needs to be managed alone; it comes from actual structural conditions\, and it’s worth saying out loud in a room full of people carrying something similar. \nA first-generation professional often learns to manage money with no family blueprint for it. For someone else\, class background already decided what counts as acceptable risk before they ever ran a budget line.
