About Us

Ensuring a thriving social impact sector

The founding idea was simple: Offer practical advice to the region’s nonprofits and equip them with the skills to improve operations. Forty-five years later, our mission has evolved.

Today, we use research, convening, engagement, technical assistance, training, and advocacy to support a thriving impact sector and advance a more resilient and inclusive region.

Historically, our region’s nonprofits have been instrumental in expanding opportunities, justice, and social/human services to communities and populations that have been underserved, underinvested, marginalized, and redlined.

We strive for a sector that is recognized as a critical pillar of a caring and inclusive economy in Southern California.

Developing Organizations and Leaders

We provide training, technical assistance, learning experiences, and convenings for nonprofit organizations and their leaders.

Disseminating Knowledge

We conduct and share research on sector trends, program impact, and cross-sectoral partnerships.

Engaging the Sector

We organize and mobilize the region’s nonprofit organizations and leaders through convening and base-building.

Advocating for Policy Reform

We lead advocacy campaigns and build coalitions to address the issues most critical to the sector.

Transforming Funding Practices

We serve as an intermediary between government and philanthropy, facilitating the partnership between funders and the sector.
