Create and enhance your organization’s legislative advocacy abilities and strategies in this hands-on, four-week virtual certificate program.
If you or your organization have mastered direct services, but you have not yet incorporated policy advocacy into your organization’s repertoire, or you’re looking to increase your advocacy effectiveness; this certificate program is for you. In this four-session virtual workshop, you’ll learn the ins and outs of the legislative process, advocacy tools, and campaign strategies, and discover how to create or enhance your organization’s advocacy arm. Through case studies, group and individual activities, and guidance and practice, you will leave this workshop with a sample plan that you can use to get your organization engaged in effective policy advocacy.

Who Should Attend
This workshop is for leaders who are tasked with or considering adding an advocacy arm to their organization or coalition’s repertoire as well as team members who are currently engaged in advocacy work and who would like to improve or enhance their skills and strategies in the field.

Virtual Certificate
Optimized for the virtual environment, this 4-session certificate program will consist of presentations, group discussions, breakout group sessions, polls, and short breaks. This is an opportunity to do a deep dive on a new topic and leave with tools that you can put into practice immediately.
Instructor
Maya Paley, Consultant
A nonprofit professional and social justice advocate. Maya is passionate about making community engagement, policy advocacy, and leadership accessible and attainable. She recently served as the Director of Advocacy and Community Engagement for the National Council of Jewish Women, Los Angeles, for which she was responsible for the organization’s local and state advocacy and policy agenda as well as recruiting and training hundreds of volunteers to advocate for NCJW|LA’s priority bills.
With a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from UC Berkeley and a master’s degree in International Affairs from Columbia University, Maya received the Outstanding Woman Leader Award from the City of Santa Monica in 2018 and the Women in Leadership Award from the City of West Hollywood in 2019. Maya consults with nonprofit organizations in program ideation, development, evaluation, policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement, strategic planning and visioning, and more.
