City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs
Strengthening the City's Arts
and Culture Institutions
The Situation
As part of its commitment to support and celebrate the vital role the creative community plays across the city of LA, the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) provides opportunities for leaders running nonprofit arts organizations to build their management and leadership skills and connect with a robust network of peers and potential collaborators. To fulfill these goals, DCA sought a partner that is both qualified to share management and organizational best practices with LA’s creative community and understands the unique challenges and emerging opportunities facing nonprofit leaders each year.
The Engagement
Since 2003, CNM has partnered with DCA to provide arts organizations with scholarships to access our capacity-strengthening seminars, management certificate programs, and special events. Through our partnership, thousands of creatives have learned and improved valuable skills that they’ve brought back to their organizations, helping to expand their impact. Knowing that strong connections between nonprofits improves our collective service to communities, CNM is proud to help organize DCA’s annual convening that brings leaders in LA’s arts and culture sector together to share lessons-learned, develop solutions to common challenges, and build lasting relationships.
