About this event

As nonprofit leaders, we have an opportunity to honor our humanity and the humanity of others in the workplace. Join us for this two-session class that will sharpen your communication, conflict management, and change management skills. You’ll deepen your understanding of what it takes to cultivate a workplace where your team members feel safe to bring their authentic selves.

Topics include:

  • Biases
  • Five conflict styles
  • Learning styles
  • Generations at work
  • Understanding your own emotional triggers
  • Change management and fatigue

Who Should Attend: This seminar is designed for Nonprofit Supervisors, Directors, Managers, and other nonprofit leaders at all levels of experience.

This program meets on the following Tuesdays from 9:00am to 12:00pm:

Virtual Seminar

Optimized for the virtual environment, this two day (½ days) seminar will consist of presentations, group discussions, breakout group sessions, polls and short breaks. This is an opportunity to do a deep dive on a new topic and leave with tools that you can put in to practice immediately.

Instructors

Alda Merino-Caan, JD – Lead Strategist, Center for Nonprofit Management

Alda has over a decade’s worth of experience in the nonprofit realm delivering training and professional development, advising nonprofit leadership, and designing successful and sustainable programs. As an attorney and human rights advocate with a background in grassroots community organizing and international collaboration, Alda brings a diverse perspective to her work with CNM. In her Strategist role, Alda engages in research and evaluation, capacity strengthening, and consulting around organizational assessment and development, strategic planning, process and impact evaluation, and serving community-identified priorities. She facilitates training, coaches, and provides technical assistance around board development and governance, cultural humility, fund and resource development, strategic planning, supervision, and wellness. Her clientele consists of nonprofit and community leaders, board members, funders, government agencies, healthcare, and mental health providers, and other entities investing in and/or partnering with the nonprofit sector.

Alicia K. Avalos – Strategist, Center for Nonprofit Management

A native Angeleno, Alicia has over 20 years of leadership experience in city government and several social service agencies, directing successful programs including Summer Night Lights. Most recently at Chrysalis, she was a Program Manager for a rapid rehousing program providing employment services to those who were justice-involved. At CNM, she supports the client services staff, leads client contact and service activities, and maintains good relationships with clients and colleagues. Her dual background in city government and nonprofit program management gives her experience in managing project development and implementation. Alicia holds a BA in Communications & Fine Arts from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA.
