As a nonprofit leader, your effectiveness multiplies when you know how to draw critical business issues and opportunities from your financial statements. Each of the three most common financial statements reveals different aspects of your organization’s health. A strong picture of your financial issues and successes emerges as you review easy-to-understand ratios and simple trend analysis.

At this seminar, you will:

  • learn criteria to evaluate the adequacy of your organization’s financial statements as a business decision-making tool
  • know what to request from your financial team in terms of financial analysis
  • understand the main strategic issues that are discerned from analysis of the three basic financial statements
  • increase your confidence in using financial statements for initiating strategic discussions with your board

Optimized for the virtual environment, this ½ day seminar will consist of presentations, group discussions, breakout group sessions, polls and short breaks. This is an opportunity to do a deep dive on a new topic and leave with tools that you can put in to practice immediately.

Instructor:

Caryn Ryan – Founder & Managing Member, Missionwell

Before founding Missionwell, which advises nonprofits and religious organizations, Caryn was CFO of World Vision International, the programming arm of the $2.5B World Vision global relief and development organization and operated in about 80 countries around the world. Caryn was responsible for their microfinance operations, global financial operations, governance, and compliance and started an emerging shared service for accounting/reporting and established a world-class global Treasury center. Caryn holds an MBA from Northwestern University and serves on the board of Union Rescue Mission, where she has typically chaired the Audit & Finance Committee and the Executive Compensation Committee. She is a director of an area credit union and chairs its Business Development and Risk Management Committees while assisting with strategy and governance best practices.
