This event is part of a series hosted by CNM and BDO FMA to help LA County organizations get ready, apply, and manage government funds, particularly American Rescue Plan funding.
This workshop focuses on key concepts and best practices in budgeting and financial performance management. We’ll discuss the steps of a well-designed budget process that facilitates programmatic, strategic, and fiscal discussions among the leadership team and explore internal and external financial monitoring practices that can support organizations as they apply for and manage federal funds.
This event includes Spanish translation and interpretation.

Instructors
Gina McDonald, CPA – Managing Director, BDO FMA
An experienced accountant, Gina is known for her ability to translate highly technical knowledge into relatable concepts and actionable terminology for nonprofit leaders. In addition to leading project teams, she frequently leads the development and delivery of trainings on technical accounting and other matters affecting nonprofits, and is a lead instructor and curriculum developer for the Certified Nonprofit Accounting Professional (CNAP) program. Prior to joining BDO FMA, Gina spent 17 years in public accounting and served as Director of Finance at the Greater Providence YMCA.
Hillary Dale, MPA – Manager, BDO FMA
A nonprofit professional with significant international operations and project management experience, Hillary is a certified ScrumMaster and specializes in gathering and utilizing data to strengthen operations, improve systems, and design processes, helping BDO FMA clients build their capacity to understand, mitigate, and overcome operational and financial roadblocks. Prior to joining BDO FMA, she served as a senior program officer with Action Against hunger, worked with the UN Development Programme and FilmAid International, and was an Education & Development Volunteer with US Peace Corps in the Philippines.
Maura Harrington, PhD, MBA – Executive Vice President, Center for Nonprofit Management
An expert in the field of organizational development with a focus on strategic planning, Maura Harrington brings to CNM both consulting and training services to the nonprofit and public sectors. Maura’s extensive background includes serving as an adjunct professor at the USC Schools of Social Work and Psychology, designing and delivering leadership workshops, and training for leadership development research studies through the Connective Leadership Institute where she serves as an Advisory Board Member. Maura is also an executive coach and a certified Governance Trainer through BoardSource. She holds a PhD in Organizational Behavior from the Claremont Graduate School, an MBA from the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management, and a B.S. in Psychology from Georgetown University.
Alexis Moreno – Senior Strategist, Center for Nonprofit Management
Alexis Moreno is a Senior Strategist at the Center for Nonprofit Management with over two decades of leadership experience in higher education and the non-profit sector. Her career has centered around building leadership capacity of staff and community members, organizational development, program evaluation and community-based participatory research. She has worked in and with organizations focused on educational equity, urban planning and local history, environmental advocacy, community health, systems change and family strengthening.
Alexis is a lifelong Southern Californian whose ancestors were born in the US, Mexico, and the Isleta Pueblo in New Mexico, and identifies as a first generation college graduate and white-collar professional. To nurture her resilience, she enjoys reading science fiction and fantasy, listening to podcasts, practicing yoga, learning about herbal medicine and other healing modalities, spending time in nature and resting.
