After two years of working with the County of LA to streamline and improve contracting policies and practices, Sup. Holly Mitchell & Sup. Sheila Kuehl have a motion before the Board next Tuesday that we think you will be happy to support.
Based on the recommendations that so many of you provided, the motion ensures that departments are accountable for making changes, including:
- A more centralized contracting and procurement process within a newly established office that is required to consistently invite community feedback
- Expanding the prompt payment program for organizations who are certified vendors
- Improving data tracking to measure progress against the equity and process goals we have been pushing for
- Pilot programs within key county departments who are major contractors for social services
- Address payment issues including adequate and timely reimbursement
We hope you agree that this is important and unprecedented progress. We want to make sure that the Board of Supervisors knows that we are watching this issue, that we appreciate their support, and their commitment to moving beyond planning toward meaningful implementation.
Please use this sample letter, copy to your organization’s letterhead, and submit as a public comment using this link by Monday, August 8th at 12 pm.
On behalf of the Economic Resiliency Task Force, we are really excited to share the news with you! Let’s keep up the good work and let the Supervisors know that we care about this progressing quickly.
Thank you!
